what I actually eat before a comp
Right so I've been asked this a few times and honestly I never had a proper answer until I started paying attention to what was making me feel good vs absolutely awful on the floor mid-WOD.
Basically the night before I keep it dead simple. Rice, chicken, something green. Nothing new, nothing spicy, nothing I haven't eaten a hundred times. I learned that the hard way after a regional last year where I thought trying a new pasta dish the night before was fine. It was not fine.
Morning of — this is where I used to overthink it. I'd either eat too much and feel heavy during the first AMRAP or eat nothing and die around the 8 minute mark. Now I do a small bowl of oats about 2 hours out. Banana if I'm still hungry. That's it.
I've been taking creatine consistently for months now so I don't stress about timing it on comp day, just carry on as normal. Pre-workout I'll have my matcha instead of anything harsh — genuinely just works better for me, no spike and crash situation.
The main thing tbh is don't experiment on race day. Like your training nutrition is your comp nutrition. That's basically the whole tip.
