the 30 minutes before training is actually where it happens
Right so I used to just rock up to the box whenever, maybe sip something on the way, chuck my bag down and get into it. And honestly for ages I thought the WOD itself was the only thing that mattered. Like, you show up, you work hard, job done.
Took me way too long to realise the 30 minutes before is basically setting the tone for everything. What I do now — and this isn't some rigid protocol, it's just what I've landed on after a lot of trial and error — is I'll have my matcha pre-workout about 25 minutes out, get my creatine in, do a proper movement prep that actually matches what's coming (so if there's snatches in the WOD I'm not just doing random hip circles and calling it a day). I feel more switched on by the time we start, less of that sluggish first-round feeling where you're basically just waking up mid-AMRAP. To be fair I don't know exactly what's doing what but the combination works for me. The days I skip any part of it I can usually tell within the first few minutes.
