rice cakes got boring so I did this instead

Been grabbing rice cakes as an after-school thing for the kids and honestly they were barely touching them. Can't blame them, can you. So this week I just threw together a quick hummus and veg tray — takes maybe 15 minutes if you make the hummus yourself, less if you use a tin and just dress it up a bit. Basically blitz a tin of chickpeas with a spoonful of tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and a splash of water. That's it. Spread it on a plate, drizzle some more oil on top, bit of paprika, then just chop whatever's in the fridge — carrots, cucumber, pepper, whatever's going — and dump it all on the side. I added some wholemeal pitta cut into strips. Tom ate the lot without being asked, which never happens. Lucy said the hummus tasted "too lemony" but she still had two helpings so I'm calling that a win. Proper simple this one, nowt fancy, and it actually fills them up for five minutes before they're raiding the biscuit tin.

do you add any protein to the hummus or keep it as is for the kids?

rice cakes are decent if you actually put something on them tbh — smashed avocado or peanut butter at least
